          Revised 2011
Each year the Maryland "Wildlife and Heritage" Service establishes a harvest quota that supports the goals and objectives of the state's black bear management program.  Once the quota is met the season is closed.  To date, the season has not lasted a full week.  What this means is that there is little time to locate property to hunt, scout for bear and be in a position to get a shot.  With their extreme sense of smell black bear are quite  challenging to hunt. We know the land, how the bear react to pressure and scouting is what we do best.
Our private leases are deep in the heart of Garrett County, Maryland. We have a healthy population of bear and access to several thousand acres of farm and timber country.  These select bear habitats are rich with dense rhododendron and mountain laurel and the abundance of wild berries and other natural foods.  These resources attract and enable a thriving population of bears.
We typically use ATVs to access these remote areas.  Depending on the physical condition of our hunters there is usually additional walking and climbing in the mountainous terrain.  The weapon of choice is a high powered rifle with average shots ranging from 25 to 150 yards.  With multiple permit holders in our hunting parties it enables us to conduct productive drives. We also conduct still and stationary hunts. (Maryland Law: No baiting, No attractants, No electronic calls & No dogs)
